How to Make Silicone Mold Iron-On Patches?
Materials Needed:
- Silicone Mold – Choose a mold with your desired design (e.g., logos, letters, shapes).
- Heat-Transfer Vinyl (HTV) – Flexible HTV (such as Siser Flex or Thermoflex Plus) works best.
- Heat Press or Iron – For applying the patch.
- Teflon Sheet or Parchment Paper – To protect the design during pressing.
- Weeding Tools – For removing excess vinyl.
- Fabric Base (optional) – If you want to layer the silicone patch on fabric before applying.
Steps for making silicone mold iron on patches:
1 Prepare the Silicone Mold:
Clean the mold to ensure no debris interferes with the HTV.
If using a 3D silicone mold, you may need to press HTV into it manually or use a vacuum former for better adhesion.
2 Cut & Weed the HTV:
Cut your design from HTV using a Cricut or Silhouette machine (if needed).
Weed out the excess vinyl, leaving only the desired design.
3 Press HTV into the Silicone Mold:
Place the HTV (adhesive side up) into the mold.
Cover with a Teflon sheet and press with a heat press (~280°F for 10-15 seconds) or a hot iron.
Let it cool before removing from the mold.
4 Apply the Patch to Fabric:
Place the molded HTV patch on your fabric (adhesive side down).
Cover with a Teflon sheet and press again (~280°F for 15-20 seconds with medium pressure).
Peel the carrier sheet while warm (if applicable).
Tips for Best Ironing on Results:
- Use flexible HTV to prevent cracking when bent.
- For thicker designs, layer multiple HTV pieces before molding.
- If the patch doesn’t stick well, use fabric glue as reinforcement.
- Experiment with glitter or metallic HTV for unique effects.
